Academy of Ballet is a sponsor for Junior and Secondary chapters of the National Honors Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). NHSDA strives to foster an appreciation for dance as an art form worthy of merit and prestige. This nationally recognized distinction honors the leadership, artistic merit and academic achievement in the field of dance.

Benefits of NHSDA membership include:

• Certificates at each level of induction plus opportunity to wear Honor Pin and Honor Cords. Approval from principal and school administrators may be required to wear Honor Cords during graduation ceremony. 

• Mentorship with Chapter Sponsor and peer networking

• State and National level scholarship and award opportunities

• Exclusive student discounts and benefits through NHSDA Preferred Vendors 

• NHSDA Award Program: 11th and 12th grade students can apply for the NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership and Academic Achievement award, the highest student dance award in the nation

All members are encouraged to cite NHSDA on their college applications and professional resumes. Our chapters will participate in national NDEO campaigns including Love Your Body Week, Dance A Difference Week, Thank A Dance Teacher Day and more.

Qualifications for Induction

• Minimum 3.0 GPA 

• Accumulation of points for meritous work in dance that meets NHSDA general guidelines: 15 points are required for Grades 6-8 (Junior Chapter) and 30 points are required for Grades 9-12 (Secondary Chapter).

• Demonstration of character through leadership, initiative, work ethic, problem solving and collaboration as observed by Chapter Sponsor Ms. Nicole
